Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering

Awarded by The University of Newcastle, Australia

Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of all engineering disciplines. Virtually all industries need mechanical engineers.

Mechanical Engineers concern themselves with the design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of mechanical devices, equipment and systems. Examples include power generation, mining, mineral processing, metal and materials production, transport, air conditioning and refrigeration, materials handling and manufacturing – the list is a long one. Wherever there is mechanical equipment and systems, a mechanical engineer is needed to design, manufacture, operate and maintain them.

The Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering is designed to provide you with hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge that will prepare and equip you for the challenges of the new economy, while meeting requirements for widely accepted mechanical engineering qualifications. The award may be conferred with Honours to high achieving students.

Professional Accreditation

The Bachelor of Engineering programmes offered by The University of Newcastle, Australia (in conjunction with PSB Academy) are fully accredited by  Engineers Australia (EA).

Programme Structure

  • This programme consists of 35 modules and 1 Mechanical Engineering Project
  • 2 semesters in Year 1; 3 trimesters in Year 2, 3 and 4
  • 3 modules are taught in each semester in Year 1
  • 4 modules are taught in each trimester by both University faculty and local lecturers from Year 2

This programme is specially designed with the objective of giving students with GCE 'O' Levels or its equivalent a head start for the bachelor degree programme. Year 1 consists of bridging components which are meant to prepare students for the bachelor degree programme. Years 2 to 4 represent an accelerated programme which allows a typical 5-years programme to be completed in 4 years.

Students must complete an equivalent of 12 weeks industry experience during their programme. Please click http://www.newcastle.edu.au/faculty/engineering/for-students/industrial-experience/ for more information.

Students may also enjoy the benefit of transferring or completing their studies on campus in Australia.
