PSB Diploma in Business Administration (Banking and Finance)

Banking and Finance is a much sought after discipline.  Global and local banks in Singapore as well as in the region are constantly on ther lookout for individuals to join their organisations.  The knowledge and skills learned in the programme will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of theoretical principles and applications of banking and finance.

The Diploma in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) is carefully designed to cover both the contemporary theories and practices of banking and financial services.  The subjects include , among others, the priniciples of banking and finance, financial accounting, financial management, investment, economics, marketing, finance strategy and others. 

At the end of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Gain a broad view of the banking and financial industry;
  • Develop an understanding of the contemporary theories, concepts and practices of the banking and finance industry;
  • Generate an awareness of the general principles of banking and finance;
  • Appreciate the roles and functions of the central bank and its relationships between the government on the one side and banking industry on the other side;
  • Understand the financial intermediary role played by a commercial bank and its operational functions to both the depositors and borrowers alike;
  • Provide a sound basic knowledge of the principles of investment;
  • Equip with sound fundamental knowledge and skills in financial accounting and apply skills and knowledge to the business environment;
  • Focus on the important marketing principles and application of  strategic as well as tactical marketing concepts and theories to the marketing of the financial services or products.
  • Understand of IT fundamentals and an overview of the relevant and practical applications of IT in the finance and banking industry

Progression Pathway

Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates can advance on to a business-related PSB Advanced Diploma or gain entry into various prestigious universities (subject to universities' entry requirements), such as:

  • University of Newcastle, Australia

Course Structure

This programme consists of 10 modules, amounting to a total of 300 contact hours for the part-time pathway.

Duration

The programme is delivered over 10 months for the part-time pathway.

Assessment and Examination

At the commencement of each module, students will be provided the assessment mode and weightings for the module.  Most modules have several points of assessment, which may include assignments, tests, projects and final examinations.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements are:

Local Student Admission

  • 5 GCE 'O' Level passes or equivalent, including English, OR
  • 3 GCE 'O' Level passes or equivalent, including English and with at least 3 years of work experience
  • Higher NITEC (or NITEC, subject to minimum grades)

Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may also apply, but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
