Bachelor of Science (Honours) Business Studies with Banking and Finance

This degree programme prepares you for a career in the banking and financial services industry. This includes retail or branch banking, marketing, corporate and wholesale banking and other parts of the financial sector, such as capital markets and treasury management.

Through this programme, you will develop a broad understanding of managerial, financial, legal, and economic concepts that will enable you to gain an awareness of the current practices and problems pertinent in modern-day banking and financial sectors. All subject material taught is related to real-world management issues.

Students will benefit from a rich diversity of teaching, from both Loughborough University faculty members and local lecturers. Classroom interactions vary from lectures and seminars, to discussion groups and supervised computer-lab sessions.

Course Structure

  • This course consists of 18 modules
  • 3 trimesters in a year
  • 2 modules are taught over each trimester
  • Approximately 48 contact hours per module delivered by both University faculty and local lecturers

Assessment and Examination

Modules are normally assessed by a mixture of coursework and written examination. The most common mix is 25% coursework and 75% examination while some modules may have a 50% or 100% examination weightage. Coursework assessment is based on a variety of tasks, including individual essays, group reports, group work on simulations and computer-based projects. There is normally one examination per module. External Examiners, who are formally appointed by the University, audit the whole assessment process.

Duration

The course can be completed within 3 years. For those with exemption, this course can be completed within 2 years.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements are:

  • PSB Academy Diploma with average B grade; OR
  • PSB Academy Advanced Diploma with average B/C grade; OR
  • Diploma from local Polytechnic or Professional Institution with average B/C grade; OR 
  • GCE A-Levels with average B/C grade

Applicants without the requisite grades may also apply but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the University.
 

Exemptions

  • PSB Academy Advanced Diploma in Business Studies, with average B/C grade or Graduates of a business-related diploma from a local Polytechnic are exempted from Year 1 of the programme (i.e. direct entry onto Year 2 and complete the programme in two years). Applicants with a lower grade average may be accepted into Year 1 of the programme.
