Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering

Every organisation or even nation needs a whole network of personnel in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly. One vital link in this network is the electrical engineer. He is becoming a much sought after person in our new economy. On his shoulders lies the responsibility of improving the capacity of countries in the new and emerging technologies.

Electrical engineering is the science of power generation and distribution, signal processing, and analogue and digital electronics. The Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering is designed to provide you with hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge that will prepare and equip you for the challenges of the new economy, while meeting requirements for widely accepted electrical engineering qualifications. The award may be conferred with Honours to high achieving students.

Programme Structure

  • This programme consists of 17 modules and 1 Final Year Engineering Project
  • 3 Trimesters in a year - students complete 2 modules per trimester (4 months)
  • Some courses however, will be offered in Block mode (2 months) as specified by the university.
  • Delivered by both University faculty and local lecturers

Duration

The programme can be completed within a minimum period of 3 years and 4 months.

Assessment and Examination

Assessments may include laboratory assignments, tests, projects, and final examinations.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for local students are:

  • Diploma in Engineering (in relevant disciplines) from a local polytechnic

Candidates with the following diploma qualifications may consider applying for Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering:

  • Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering
  • Diploma in Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering
  • Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering

An applicant for a place at The University of Newcastle who does not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Details of this policy can be found here.

Applicants without the required average grades may also apply but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the University.
