The supervisor in a business organisation plays a vital role in leading employees to achieve organisational goals. As such he should be a good leader – active, dynamic and inspiring – helping his team perform at its peak. At the same time, he has to maintain a delicate balance between effectiveness and efficiency and keep harmony between the management and his employees. Not unlike walking a tightrope – but when he does his job well, there is immense satisfaction all round.

Effective supervision aims at developing the essential cornerstones of trust, competence, shared-values and respect in a superior-subordinate relationship.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Develop skills relevant to their supervisory responsibilities and tasks
• Identify factors affecting quality, cost and delivery
• Apply appropriate management techniques to solve problems on quality, cost and delivery, and to improve efficiency at the workplace

Progression Pathway

Upon successful completion, graduates of this programme can advance on to a business-related PSB Advanced Diploma or a Bachelor’s Degree from the following universities (subject to University’s entry requirements):

Duration

The course can be completed within a minimum period of 18 months.

Assessment and Examination

At the commencement of each module, students will be provided the assessment mode and weightings for the module. Most modules have several points of assessment, which may include assignments, tests, projects and final examinations.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements are:

• 5 GCE 'O' levels including a pass in English/Higher NITEC (ITC); or
• 3 GCE 'O' levels including a pass in English with three years of working experience; or
• PSB Certificate in Business Administration; or
• SAF Certificate in Supervision; or
• ITE Certificate in Business Studies (Accounting/Secretarial) with one year of supervisory experience; or
• ITE Certificate in Office Skills with three years of supervisory experience

Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may also apply, but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
