Problem-Solving and Decision-Making (Operations Level)
Surrounded by an endless sea of problems? The Problem-Solving and Decision-Making module is specifically designed to provide the foundation for effective practices and behaviours for creative problem-solving and effective decision making. This course aims to equip individuals who are working within a team the techniques and skills in problem-solving and decision-making.

• Recognising a problem area

  - Identifying common symptoms at the workplace that could lead to potential problems

  - Identifying possible sources of problems

  - Assessing the impact of a problem

  - Identifying deviations from norm and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on symptoms identified

  - Listing steps involved in the investigation of deviation


• Generate and select ideas to solve a problem

  - DO IT Problem-Solving Process

  - Divergent thinking and diverging tools

  - Evaluation and convergent thinking tools

  - Deduction techniques

  - Decision-making tools

  - Cause and Effect Diagram


• Implementation of selected solution

  - Conveying of ideas and messages through different modes of communication

  - Developing an action plan

  - Determining effectiveness of proposed solution

  - Using trouble shooting and fault-finding method to pinpoint area(s) of deficiency or cause of failure in the solution

  - Formulating preventive measures to avoid recurrence of problem

Learning Methodology
This module will be conducted through mini lectures, interactive activities, games, group discussions, case studies and self assessments/tests.
