At an age when most of his peers would be focusing on one course of studies, Edward Lim chose to undertake two diplomas, one full-time and one part-time, simultaneously. This decision was made with an eye on industry needs and his viable career paths after graduation. As daunting and challenging as it was, Edward’s tenacity has given him an edge over his peers.
What made you choose the course at PSB Academy?
I believe that tourism is an industry that contributes significantly to the Singapore economy, especially in our position as a dining and shopping haven and appealing to various traveler profiles.
What made you choose the route of furthering your studies with a private education institution (versus a local polytechnic)?
I believe that private education institutes can be as good as local ones. What’s more important is the individual’s learning attitude and foresight on what he or she endeavors to do. From my personal experience having completed the private Diploma, I do not feel that it is inferior in any way, in fact I experienced many challenges which motivated me to work hard.
In what ways has this course value added to your personal development and career opportunities?
The best part of my studies in PSB Academy was learning and studying along with working adults who came with their industry experience and were generous in sharing their advice and stories about their work and different job scopes. It made me anticipate my own career path after I complete my studies.
How do you manage your time between two courses? Any tips or words of wisdom for prospective or other students?
I used a timetable to properly allocate how much time I should spend on each project or assignment, so that I would not feel overwhelmed when the deadlines are up. I will encourage students who wish to undertake a similar path to handle stress well and also master the skill of multi-tasking.
Was there anyone who motivated you through the challenges of completing the course?
My parents were very supportive of my decision throughout this challenging journey, and I really thank them for ensuring my well-being by taking good care of my daily needs. My classmates and I also supported one another through our course together, and I was motivated by the strong morale support and a common goal to graduate together.
How would you describe your experience at PSB Academy?
Overall, it was a pleasant experience as the faculty members were very friendly and accommodating. I appreciated the lessons being conducted well which made learning much more enjoyable and manageable.
What would be the one thing you’ll say to other / prospective students who are coping with challenges with their education?
You are the one who can motivate yourself the best, so always look ahead!
