Setting Herself Apart

“Set your targets and goals, and then fight for them no matter what it takes. When people don’t understand you, laugh at you, or say things that are useless, remember not to give up. Just smile and know that years later, it will all be different.”-Ivy

In trying to survive the academic grind that comes along with pursuing a degree, people often forgo the opportunity to build something more substantial in their lives. Ivy knew she had to develop skills well beyond the academic walls of any institution so she could make life at college a unique and meaningful experience. At PSB Academy, Ivy served in the Student Council as well as the Chinese Student Association, where she was able to augment her social skills, have interactions with students from around the globe, and chart out her potential as a leader.

What set PSB Academy apart from other private institutions was the importance and emphasis that it placed on student-led associations- giving its students the opportunity to learn hands-on through planning, organizing and executing events. These activities complemented her choice of course well--the Bachelor of Business in Marketing & Management, offered by the University of Newcastle. Communicating in English didn’t come naturally to Ivy, which added to her fear of not being able to express herself well. She knew that this was not an issue to run away from, but rather overcome through practice. By reading more, speaking more, learning more, Ivy realised the value of mastering the language would create confidence for presentation and leadership roles in the years to come. In the summer after graduation, Ivy found herself back in her hometown in China, where she worked as a “Studying Abroad” consultant for a few months until she was inspired to further her studies through the story of a Chinese PhD student's entrepreneurial experience in the USA.

Attracted to a rather novel area of study, Ivy knew that her academic performance and excellent student activities experiences in PSB Academy would set her on course to pursue a Masters of Science in Technopreneurship & innovation at NTU.

Fast forward to today, Ivy is an Overseas Marketing Manager at XGIMI Technology who continues to inspire those around her with her positivity and determination. Like she always says, “Set your targets and goals, and then fight for them no matter what it takes. When people don’t understand you, laugh at you, or say things that are useless, remember not to give up. Just smile and know that years later, it will all be different.”
