I am a believer that everything can be completed if we are willing to step out of our comfort zone. To me, there is no such thing as ‘impossible’. The so-called ‘impossible’ can always be accomplished if we are willing to put in a little extra effort to make it possible. – Eva

What were some of the most valuable take-aways as a student leader in PSB Academy?

During the time when I was a student leader, we were tasked to create a vibrant and active student community as well as engagement with students from different levels and backgrounds through events. There were a lot of collaborative events between the various student clubs and all of us had to put on our thinking caps to contribute ideas. As PSB Academy has students from all parts of the world, I got the opportunity to work with different people with different backgrounds. Those experiences certainly helped me transit to the working environment in Singapore which is a giant melting pot.

What were some of the challenges you faced when you were seeking employment after graduation?

It is challenging to get a job for fresh grads in Singapore, moreover for an international student. Most people will properly grab the first offer that came along the way and build their career path from there. However, I have a clear vision for myself and wanted to stay focus on something that can fulfill both my passion and skillset.  Another challenge was trying to ace the nerve-wrecking interview. Even though we may have prepared ourselves, done the research before facing the interviewer, the actual scenario can be quite intimating sometimes when you are trying to find the ‘right’ words to answer the questions.

Briefly share the highlights of your current career portfolio

It has been an exciting and interesting journey since I switched to my current job this year. In my previous company, I was the Content Specialist and my focus was only on content management on a website, while the current position as a Content Strategist requires my skills in content management as well as encompasses content production on a mobile application.

One of the biggest challenges the team faces daily is to create content that is concise, relying accurate messages that will be conveyed to the users within the limited space. To ensure users read our messages, we have to choose the ‘perfect’ words that are captivating and best construct the sentences. This is something I excitedly take on every day!

How was it like to work in GrabTaxi and TripAdvisor?

Both are tech companies with their own cultures and visions. I have spent a good number of years with TripAdvisor and enjoyed working there. It was a good exposure and I learnt a lot from there.

One of the things I love since coming onboard GrabTaxi is noticing how the company takes localization seriously and sets it as a priority for all staff. We understand that to localise, we need more than just translating the content that we have. This helps us in understanding what the local market requires and to create content best suited for the audience.
