PSB Academy provides free tuition to support underprivileged youths

PSB Academy continues the momentum of the Future Together Initiative – providing free academic support for youths taking their ‘N’ and ‘O’ level examinations

27 July 2021 — PSB Academy (PSBA), known as The Future Academy and one of Singapore’s leading private education institutions (PEI), has launched the Future Together Initiative 2021 to provide educational support for underprivileged youths who are taking their ‘N’ and ‘O’ level examinations this year.

As part of the initiative, an estimated $100,000, fully funded from PSBA’s resources, has been set aside to tutor underprivileged youths who are taking their ‘N’ and ‘O’ level examinations this year. Social service organisations Impart Singapore, and Society of Starfish Singapore have partnered with PSBA in this free weekly tuition initiative.

Lecturers from PSBA’s School of Foundation Studies and School of Life and Physical Sciences will tutor the youths for three hours every Saturday starting from 14 August 2021.

Subjects offered are English Language, Elementary Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

The five-week intensive revision sessions conducted at PSBA’s City Campus at Marina Square aim to prepare youths for the upcoming national examinations and ensure that they are academically ready to sit for the papers. The lecturers have extensive experience teaching International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) courses at PSBA since 2019.

“Education is the cornerstone of social mobility. We believe that with the right support and a strong foundation in education, every youth can achieve their fullest potential, regardless of their family circumstances or their background. This year’s Future Together Initiative aims to provide the guidance and support that they need to achieve their full potential and put them on a path to success in the future,” said Derrick Chang, Chief Executive Officer, PSB Academy.

“As the national examinations near, we are very pleased to be able to partner with PSB Academy on this journey. We hope that the professional guidance provided by the lecturers can help our youths to excel academically. By doing so, they are well set to achieve their full potential in whichever discipline they set their minds on,” said Joshua Tay, Director, Strategy and Partnerships, Impart Singapore.

In the coming months, PSBA will also be rolling out other forms of support as part of the Future Together Initiative 2021. Subsidies will be offered to full-time national servicemen interested to equip themselves with the business knowledge to meet the needs of a rapidly changing business environment and organisational operations. The courses will be offered as a 100% online course to accommodate the schedules of the national servicemen. Upon graduation, they will receive Certificate in Business Studies or a Diploma in Business Studies.

“The importance of education has never been emphasised more during this pandemic. We are working hard to expand and improve our offerings to meet the evolving needs of the global economy. We want to continue providing youths with the best education suited to their needs and see that future generations of youths are not disadvantaged as a result of their circumstances,” says Dr Sam Choon Yin, Dean, PSB Academy.
