AI & Robotics in Our Everyday Lives

Posted on: 04th July, 2022

There’s no doubt about it – artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are changing the world as we know it. But what exactly is artificial intelligence (AI)? AI involves creating robots and programming computers to perform tasks typically done by humans. This could be something as simple as speech recognition and chatbots to more complex tasks like driving a car.

AI is already pervasive in our everyday lives; we come across one type of artificial intelligence or another on a daily basis. From the moment we wake up when we use facial recognition to unlock our phones; telling Apple’s Siri to call ‘dad’; autocorrecting spelling errors when we send text messages; and when we navigate our way to school with Google maps. In this article, we discuss how AI technologies and robotics are changing several aspects of our lives.

Unlocking the Potential of Artificial Intelligence

In 2022, the Singapore Government is planning to invest $3.8 billion in InfoComm Technology projects involving AI and data science. This is part of the country’s push towards being a Smart Nation and to be a leader in implementing AI solutions. As a part of its strategy, it has identified five key enablers. One of which includes the development of homegrown talent to take on AI-related jobs.

How is Artificial Intelligence Being Applied?

1. Creating Smart Cities

What are smart cities? They are urban areas that use technology to improve the quality of life for their residents. This can include reducing traffic congestion, improving public safety, and enhancing sustainability. AI-powered systems can collect data about traffic patterns and then use that information to optimise traffic flow. This can help to reduce congestion and make getting around the city a lot easier.

AI is also being used to improve public safety in smart cities. For example, it can be used to monitor social media for signs of potential crime or unrest. AI can also be used to help with disaster response. By analysing data from a variety of sources, AI can provide insights that can help governments make better decisions about how to respond to a crisis.

2. Supporting Sustainability Efforts

AI can be used to help with things like energy management and waste reduction. For example, AI can be used to monitor energy usage patterns and then make recommendations about how to reduce consumption. AI can also be used to help with recycling and waste management. By using AI to track patterns of waste production, city officials can develop more effective strategies for reducing the amount of waste that is generated.

3. Enhancing Transportation with Self-driving Cars

One area where AI and robotics have a major impact is in the field of transportation. Self-driving cars are becoming increasingly common, and they have the potential to drastically reduce accidents and traffic congestion. In addition, autonomous vehicles could also lead to a decrease in emissions, as they would be more efficient than human-driven cars. These technologies are also changing the logistics and supply chain industry and the way we move goods around, as drones are beginning to be used for package delivery. In the future, it is likely that AI and robotics will play an even bigger role in the transportation sector.

4. Advancing Healthcare Technology

Another area where AI and robotics are making a big impact is in healthcare. These technologies are being used to develop new treatments for diseases, as well as to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. In addition, robots are being used in surgery, and they have the potential to significantly reduce the risk of complications. AI is also being used to create personalised medicine, which could be tailored to the specific needs of each patient. The healthcare industry is just beginning to scratch the surface of what AI and robotics can do, and we can expect even more advances in the future.
