“Money is not always the main priority, but self-fulfilment is what matters.” – Reza

Could you share with us your journey as a Senior Associate at Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) Indonesia?

Working in one of the best consulting firms in the world is such a blessing for me. Having the exposure of working and an international team of colleagues and clients is such a dream come true for me. From struggling as a fresh graduate to reach where I am today, I feel grateful for everything I have.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your career and how do you overcome them?

Building a career can be a roller coaster ride. Even Jack Ma, the co-founder of Alibaba, was rejected from 30 jobs including KFC, but today he has built one of the most prestigious and leading e-commerce firms in the world.

There will always be ups and downs in one’s career; being rejected and having a bad day are normal things in life. But the most important thing is how we overcome these obstacles and rise again to face another day. Having a strong support system from friends and family is also important. They are like an oasis in the desert and a light in the darkness that keeps our spirits up.

What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?

Being an external auditor gives me the opportunity to meet new people, even though there’s a common perception that accounting is a desk-bound job. In reality, networking is one of the most crucial aspects of working life. I had the chance to travel throughout Indonesia, visiting places I’ve never been to before and meeting new people.

I remember a quote from an Indonesian movie: “Networking and luck are two of the most important things in the future”.

In what ways have pursuing an education at PSB Academy added value to your career and your personal development?

PSB Academy has given me a strong foundation for my working life, not only through the academic subjects but also the excellent mentoring by lecturers.

I received mentoring from memorable lecturers like Dr. John Heng, who patiently mentored us and gave wise words which I will always remember. I also appreciated the diversity in PSB Academy; having peers from across Asia has helped me to interact with my international colleagues and clients.

What are your best memories of student life at PSB Academy?

Forming close friendships and learning various cultures from peers of different nationalities are some of the best memories. But most of all, I have made friends across Indonesia, from Aceh until Makassar, and they have become like my family.

The tight-knit bond we have built through our Indonesian Student Club (MAPIA) events such as BBQ night and representing PSB Academy at the Indonesian Sports Olympics are fond memories I will never forget.

What would be your advice for students who are planning to take a similar career path?

I wouldn’t say that being a good student won’t make you successful, but it would be better to also maintain relationships and networking outside of class, since getting top grades might not assure you success. Networking can provide you a meaningful experience and life lesson that might help you in the future.

Any quote that you live by or a quote that you would like to share with our current students?

Money is not always the main priority, but self-fulfilment is what matters.
