Diploma in Network Defence and Forensic Countermeasures, PSB Academy

School of Engineering and Technology

How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?

A friend introduced me to PSB Academy, and his positive feedback convinced me to enrol.

What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you’re studying now?

My career goal is to begin as a Cybersecurity Engineer – overseeing and implementing security features across an organization and developing robust cybersecurity strategies. Ultimately, I aspire to progress to the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO).

I chose the Diploma in Network Defence and Forensic Countermeasures because it offers a deep understanding of network security, operating systems, compliance, and security practices. These are essential stepping stones for achieving my future career aspirations.

What are some skills you’ve picked up from your course that you think will be useful in real life or your future job?

I’ve gained skills in network defence strategies, digital forensics and incident response, ethical hacking, and programming. These skills are directly applicable to real-world scenarios and will be invaluable in my future career.

Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an edge or put you at a disadvantage? Can you share any experiences that made you feel that way?

I believe this cyber security diploma has provided me with valuable benefits. It has given me more time to upskill in my field, and by pursuing it part-time, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and learn from people with more life experience, gaining new perspectives.  Additionally, it has allowed me to earn various certifications, such as the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification during my studies.

Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?

Definitely. One of the most notable lecturers who continues to mentor and motivate me is Mr. Kelvin Wu. He taught us EC Council modules with a practical teaching style that was easy to understand. He has also been like a father figure, consistently encouraging us to learn more and explore new opportunities even outside the scope of our curriculum.

What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had at PSB Academy?

The most unforgettable moment was during my initial days at PSB Academy when a small group of us signed up for a cybersecurity jeopardy competition hosted by PSB Academy Singapore Computer Society Student Chapter. It was a fun event where we bonded with like-minded individuals and enjoyed gamifying the topic of cybersecurity. The cherry on top was that our group won the challenge!

What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?

Discover your interests and passions! Identify the topics that intrigue you the most and don’t fall into the trap of following a path that others set for you. Study what you love and love what you study.
