1. What made you choose to study in Singapore and PSB Academy?

I was concerned with my proficiency in English. During my research, I came across the collaboration programme between Jimei University and PSB Academy. I decided to take on the programme since Singapore is also one of the South East Asian countries which I wanted to visit.

2. In what ways have your education with PSB Academy added value to your personal development and professional opportunities?

I am currently working as a Marketing Manager at Jupengfei Dream Coast Resort in Xiamen, China.

The project that I’m most proud of since I started the job was to bring over the USS Halloween concept. Since the project began three years ago, it has been well-received, and I have built up my own unique branding as well. During the initial stage, I faced a lot of rejections and objections. However, I pushed through and now the event has multiplied the company’s revenue.

When you decide to leave your comfort zone and study in Singapore, you will be exposed to different types of experiences and situations. Through these experiences, you will gain essential skills needed to face the challenges in life. Companies need employees who can adapt, inspire and create. You will be able to make full use of the experiences gained and boost your career development.

3. What do you think is the main difference between receiving an education in China and in PSB Academy, Singapore? What were your main takeaways while studying in Singapore?

The main difference is the weightage of the exams. You will be given assignments throughout the term and these grades carry a greater weightage than the final year examinations. Therefore, you will need to stay focus throughout the term and not just during the final year examinations. The education in PSB Academy focuses more on teamwork and 70% of the curriculum are group projects. Thus, I was able to work on people management, communication and coordination skills.

4. Were there any lecturers who left a great impression on you? How did they influence you positively?

Dr Melissa always had a smile on her face whenever I saw her. She treated us like her own children and was very patient in answering our questions. Besides that, she guided us and provided tips on completing our projects and examinations.

Mr Jason Ho was one of the most unforgettable lecturers during my time in PSB Academy. I am sure he has left a great impression in most of his students. Through his guidance, most of us successfully overcame the difficulties and passed the course.

Ms Linda Tan might seem strict at times, but there’s also a side of her that’s nice and friendly. She is always there to help us out for our projects and examinations. With her teaching, I scored the highest marks for my project work and my concept was accepted.

I am grateful to these three marketing lecturers for sowing ideas and inspirations in my life. Upon returning to China, I was able to make full use of these ideas in my course of work. They have played a huge part in my life as a student and influenced how I deal with my work as well.

5. How was student life in PSB Academy? Did you face any difficulty in transiting or living?

From the start of my journey from Jimei University, to PSB Academy, to University of Wollongong, Ms Xia Xiaomei was there to give me advice. She will analyse the situation in a professional way whenever I am unable to decide. Ms Xia has helped me greatly during my time of study.

Besides studies, PSB Academy organises non-academic activities as well. Students get to destress with basketball games, tertiary games and many others.

6. What were some of the most valuable take-aways from the programme you took at PSB Academy?

During my three years at PSB Academy, I learnt the importance of teamwork and coordination. Besides that, results are not achieved based on the final year examinations only. One should not neglect the different aspects of their education journey and should pay attention to details.

I also joined Chinese Student Club (CSA), where I had the chance to participate in different events and forged friendships with fellow members. I would like to specially thank the Vice President of CSA, 张益歌 (Zhang Yige), who didn’t just groom me with regards to school, but also advised me on my personal life as well.

7. Do you have any advice for students who are interested in this programme?

In your education journey, whether it's academic or non-academic, PSB Academy personnel are ready to give us advice and guide us. If you have decided to study abroad, enjoy the full process of it. While you are still young, give yourself the opportunity to experience a unique college life.
