Turning Academic Knowledge into Workplace Confidence
I graduated with First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance from Coventry University (CU) at PSB Academy in 2025. Pursuing this degree was an important step in strengthening my knowledge of accounting and finance while building a stronger foundation for my career.
I came across PSB Academy while researching degree programmes in Singapore. I was drawn to its range of programmes offered in partnership with established universities, and chose CU because of its course structure and relevant Accounting and Finance modules. The convenience of studying in Singapore while continuing to work was also an important consideration for me.
Today, I work in Account Management, where I manage corporate client portfolios and support day-to-day account operations. My responsibilities include preparing monthly and ad-hoc reports, monitoring financial and utilisation data, supporting accounts receivable activities, maintaining client records and coordinating with internal teams to resolve issues. What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to work with different teams and understand both client needs and internal processes. I also enjoy working with data and reports, as they allow me to identify discrepancies, solve problems and contribute to greater accuracy in our work. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, communication and time management are essential in my role, particularly when managing multiple priorities.
I found CU’s curriculum structured and relevant to the accounting and finance industry. What I appreciated most was the combination of technical knowledge and practical application. Modules such as Financial Reporting and Analysis, Investment Analysis, Corporate Financial Management and Performance Management helped me understand how financial concepts are applied in real business situations.
The knowledge I gained has been particularly useful in my current role, where I regularly work with financial and utilisation data, prepare reports and support accounts receivable activities. My understanding of financial reporting and corporate financial management helps me interpret figures more confidently and identify discrepancies when handling financial information. Beyond technical knowledge, the programme also strengthened my ability to work systematically, analyse information and approach problems with greater confidence.
I was also inspired by lecturers such as Mr. Navin, whose teaching helped make accounting and finance concepts more relatable. I particularly appreciated lessons that connected theoretical knowledge with real-world business situations. One memorable learning experience was working through practical case studies that required us to analyse financial information and draw our own conclusions. These activities made lessons more engaging and helped me see how classroom knowledge could be applied in the workplace.
I would not say that studying at a private institution has put me at a disadvantage. I believe employers consider a combination of qualifications, skills, experience and attitude. My experience at PSB Academy gave me the opportunity to earn a Coventry University degree while continuing to gain professional experience in Singapore.
Ultimately, I believe career development goes beyond obtaining a qualification. It is about applying what you have learned, remaining adaptable and continuously improving yourself. My learning experience with Coventry University at PSB Academy strengthened my accounting and finance knowledge and gave me the confidence to apply these skills in my professional journey.
