From Nursing to Diagnostic Radiography: Continuing My Journey in Healthcare
My journey in healthcare began with a Diploma in Nursing. Working in the healthcare sector helped me realise the importance of continuous learning and developing my clinical knowledge. This motivated me to pursue a degree in Diagnostic Radiography at PSB Academy, where the programme aligns with my career and educational goals. My nursing background has also given me a strong foundation in patient care and critical thinking, which I can build on as I learn more about medical imaging and diagnostic radiography. I am also grateful to have received the NPHVA sponsorship, which has provided valuable support and encouragement throughout my academic journey.
My learning experience at PSB Academy has been fun and eye-opening so far. The teaching approach is more structured, with practical sessions that allow us to learn through hands-on activities during classes and on weekends. The lecturers are also very supportive and willing to help whenever we have difficulties understanding the lessons. With their guidance and the support of my classmates, I have been able to keep up with the course while enjoying the learning experience.
One of the main challenges I have faced is understanding X-ray images and report writing. These are areas that require time and practice to develop. With the help of my lecturers, I have gradually gained a better understanding of the concepts. I also take the initiative to read research papers and textbooks recommended by my lecturers and classmates to strengthen my knowledge and improve my understanding.
Although my nursing background has given me a foundation in patient care, studying Diagnostic Radiography has helped me appreciate that the field involves much more than producing medical images. It requires empathy towards patients, professional communication and report writing, as well as an open mind and willingness to keep learning. Every patient and case can be different, so it is important to keep building knowledge and be prepared to adapt to different situations.
My advice to students considering this programme is to work hard towards their goals and remain open to learning. Be proactive in your studies and make the most of every opportunity to learn. It is okay to make mistakes, but what matters is being willing to learn from them and improve. With dedication, an open mind and a willingness to keep learning, we can continue to grow and develop in this field.
