I didn't want to spend years studying before working. After National Service, I was ready to start building my career, but I also knew I needed the right qualification to get there.
I wanted a practical pathway without keeping me out of the workforce for too long, so I chose the Diploma in Global Supply Chain Management. One of the things that stood out to me was the industrial attachment as it would give me the opportunity to experience the industry before graduating.
Career Services helped match me with internship opportunities, gave me several roles to choose from, and even found one close to home. I was eventually attached to a wine and spirits storage facility as a logistics customer service intern. My responsibilities included handling customer enquiries, processing duty permits, coordinating deliveries, and working closely with the warehouse and operations teams. It gave me a sense of what working in logistics is like, and I saw how everything I'd learnt in class came together in an actual business setting.
When my industrial attachment ended, I was offered a full-time position with the same company. I wanted to enter the workforce as soon as I could, and this diploma helped me do exactly that.
Today, I work as a Customer Service team member, managing bonded and non-bonded wine storage, processing outbound orders, and coordinating closely with warehouse and transport teams to keep operations running smoothly. The experience gave me confidence that I was on the right career path.
Beyond the internship, one thing I appreciated about studying at PSB Academy was learning alongside classmates from different backgrounds, as everyone brought different perspectives and experiences to class. I also remember lecturers like Mr Christopher Chiew, who always took the time to explain concepts clearly and answer questions beyond what was covered in class. I'm now pursuing a part-time degree while gaining more experience in the logistics industry.
If you're thinking of enrolling in this diploma, don't see the industrial attachment as just another requirement. Make the most of it, ask questions, and be open to learning. You never know where the experience might take you. For me, it became the start of my career.
