When I finished my Higher Nitec in Hospitality Operations at ITE West, I knew I wanted to stay in the hospitality field, and I also knew I needed a stronger qualification to secure a role that can take me further in the industry. I wanted something that would give me a real shot at building a future I could be proud of and support my family, but I didn’t know which school to go to next.
I started searching online, and PSB Academy kept popping up everywhere. The ads caught my attention, and the campus looked really nice. As I explored their website further, I saw they offered a tourism diploma with a straightforward progression pathway. I didn't want to waste time figuring out how to move from one qualification to the next and I knew this diploma was exactly what I needed.
For me, every step of my academic journey was an intentional move to strengthen my foothold in the industry. Knowing I could advance directly into Year 2 of a tourism Bachelor’s degree with their university partner made the decision easy. It was just the bridge I needed to pave my academic journey.
My time at PSB Academy gave me more than just textbook knowledge. The hands-on projects helped me put theory into action and really understand the industry. For example, in the Food and Beverage module, my group and I had to conduct a deep analysis of an assigned restaurant. We had to go there in person, observe its layout, analyse the menu, and figure out the small details that made it stand out. I didn’t know much about the F&B business at the time, so breaking it down was both fun and challenging. But that’s exactly what made it worthwhile. I learned how operators think and what it takes to run a successful business. Hearing my lecturers share their own industry experience also showed me the kind of confident, knowledgeable leader I want to become.
To anyone who is about to graduate and is considering their next step, my advice is to not shy away from doing what you want to do. Ultimately, you are the one in charge of building your own future, and following a path that fits your interests helps you get there.
