Student Stories

My interest in biology and healthcare, along with a strong desire to help others, led me towards radiography. Through my studies and personal experiences during National Service, where I was treated for injuries and interacted with radiographers, I gained a deeper appreciation for the role of medical imaging in patient care. These experiences influenced my decision to pursue this course. 

My learning experience at PSB Academy has provided a well-balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and practical training. During classroom sessions, we frequently engage in collaborative learning activities, such as mind mapping and group discussions, to enhance our understanding of complex subjects, including anatomy, physiology, and imaging principles. Practical classes offer valuable hands-on experience with imaging equipment and techniques, enabling us to develop familiarity with the tools, procedures, and protocols used in clinical settings. The programme also places a strong emphasis on professionalism and equips students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to succeed in real-world healthcare environments. 

One of my most meaningful learning experiences took place during my clinical exposure at a polyclinic. I observed a paediatric case involving a young patient who required a skull X-ray but was extremely anxious due to his condition and the unfamiliar environment. Despite the efforts of the radiography team, nurse and doctor to reassure and support him, the situation proved too overwhelming for the child, and the procedure was eventually postponed. This experience highlighted the importance of teamwork in healthcare and reinforced the need to prioritise patient well-being alongside diagnostic objectives. 

A key challenge during my studies has been adapting to a self-directed learning approach. Managing multiple modules, practical sessions and academic demands required strong discipline and time management. Over time, I have learnt to stay organised and seek support when needed. What keeps me motivated is my long-term goal of becoming a radiographer who not only produces accurate diagnostic images but also provides comfort and reassurance to patients. 

Looking ahead, I am preparing for my upcoming clinical placements, where I look forward to applying what I have learned in a real clinical environment and further developing my practical skills. 

For students considering this programme, I would advise being proactive in asking questions, supporting your peers, and embracing both the challenges and learning opportunities. Every experience, whether in class or in practice, contributes to your growth as a healthcare professional.
