Alumni Class of 2025
School of Business and Management

Having worked in accounting for several years, I decided to pursue a part-time degree in Accounting and Finance with Coventry University at PSB Academy to strengthen my academic knowledge and broaden my professional capabilities. As I was working full-time, I wanted a programme that would allow me to continue gaining practical experience while furthering my education. Graduating with First Class Honours in March 2026 made the journey especially rewarding, as balancing work and studies required commitment, discipline and effective time management.

One of the things I appreciated most about the programme was its comprehensive curriculum, which exposed me to areas beyond my day-to-day accounting responsibilities. My finance lessons with Mr Nalvin were particularly memorable, especially learning about foreign currency exposure and hedging methods. These concepts became more meaningful when I encountered foreign currency transactions and related financial matters at work. Being able to connect what I learned in class with real business situations has helped me better understand the reasoning behind financial decisions and approach new responsibilities with greater confidence.

My experience at PSB Academy also reinforced the importance of continuous learning. In accounting and finance, technical knowledge, analytical thinking, attention to detail and adaptability are essential, particularly as business processes and financial systems continue to evolve. I believe combining academic knowledge with practical experience has helped me develop a more well-rounded understanding of the industry.

Another key benefit of the degree is the professional exemptions available to me. With exemptions from nine ACCA papers and six CA papers, I now have greater flexibility to consider my next step, whether that is pursuing ACCA or CA as I continue developing my career.

Looking back, earning my degree while working full-time has been a meaningful personal and professional achievement. My advice to anyone considering further studies is to invest in your own development and remain open to learning. With the right commitment, it is possible to continue building your career while working towards your academic goals.
