Doctoral Thesis

  • Students will complete their research and develop their DBA thesis (doctoral thesis) of 50,000 to 60,000 words. The examination of the thesis includes a viva voce examination.

Mode of Assessment: Assessment of this programme includes coursework such as group work, in-class tests, written reports, viva voce examinations, presentations, and research degree.

Graduation Requirements

Upon successful completion, students will be awarded the Doctor of Business Administration from Edinburgh Napier University. The degree awarded will be the same as that to the on-campus graduates.

Local Qualifications

An MBA or a Masters qualification in a relevant area, coupled with relevant work experience in a senior management role (usually 5 years).

Applicants who do not have a recognised formal qualification need to be 30 years old and above and have 8 years work experiences. They will be invited for interview and considered on the basis of extensive senior management experience (usually 5 years) and evidence of appropriate academic ability.

Minimum age requirement: 25 years old

English Language Requirement

Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of an appropriate English language qualification, achieved no more than two years prior to the expected registration date such as:

  • IELTS score of at least 7.0 with no component below 6.5, OR
  • TOEFL IBT score of at least 95 (or equivalent paper or computer based test), OR
  • Pearsons Test of English score of at least 67, OR
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English score of at least 185, OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English score of at least 185.

Applicants who have been taught and assessed in English to UK degree or equivalent level will not be required to undertake the test.
