Introduction

The Master of Arts in Media Studies develops critical research skills. Students gain advanced insights into media studies that will build on their undergraduate knowledge. The Master of Arts in Media Studies will give you advanced insights into an exciting discipline and will prepare students for the future challenges of an information-rich society.

Media studies analyses the production, consumption and content of a range of media including: film; social media; television; popular music; smartphones. Media studies can lead to a variety of career options, including: advertising; digital post-production; film and television production; web content editing; journalism; public relations.

Graduation Requirements

Upon successful completion of all required modules, students will be awarded the Master Media Studies from Massey University. The degree awarded will be the same as that to the on-campus graduates

Maximum Candidature: The maximum candidature period for all candidates is 18 months (1.5 years).

Academic Requirements

  • Applicant have sufficient background in statistical analysis tools to satisfy the Academic Board that they have the capacity to undertake the programme; and have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, with a B- grade average across the higher level courses, or equivalent; OR
  • Applicant have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor’s degree, and have completed at least two years’ experience in a relevant field of work or professional activity, or equivalent

English Language Requirement

  • IELTS 6.5 no less than 6.0
