Introduction

The Bachelor of Media and Communication degree is offered by The University of Newcastle, Australia in Singapore. Students can complete the programme full-time with a Major in Media Production, News Media, Public Relations or opt for the following Double Major pathway:

Students will gain a solid understanding of media and communication theory and practice, and develop skills to produce thought-provoking, and engaging work in today’s complex communication landscape. Students will also gain automatic student membership with the Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education Student Chapter of the Institute of Public Relations of Singapore (IPRS) for the duration of their studies. This membership provides opportunities to participate in industry visits and annual IPRS-hosted events, offering valuable exposure to the public relations industry.

Graduation Requirements

Upon successful completion of all required modules, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Media and Communication from the University of Newcastle (Australia). The degree awarded will be the same as that to the on-campus graduates.

Academic Requirements

  • Entry to Year 1

Successful completion of GCE A-Level (Minimum 3 subjects in H2 level or 2 subjects at H2 level and 2 subjects at H1 level)

  • Entry to Year 2 with 80 units of recognised prior learning

Successful completion of PSB Academy Diploma in Media and Communications

  • Entry to Year 2 with up to 120 units of recognised prior learning

Successful completion of any local 3-year polytechnic diploma in Singapore

  • Other diploma or equivalent qualification would be assessed on a case-by-case basis by university.

Minimum Age Requirement

  • 16 years old

English Language Requirement

All  applicants  must  demonstrate  that  they  meet  the  University’s  English  proficiency  requirement through one of the following methods:

a) GSCE – English Language or Literature
IGCSE – A level English or Humanities
Overall Score: Minimum Grade C

b) IELTS Academic
Overall Score: 6.0
Section minimums are: 6.0 R/L/S/W

c) TOEFL IBT
Overall Score: 79
Minimum Individual Skills Test: R: 19, L: 20, S: 20 and Writing: 24

d) PTE Academic (GSE)
Overall Score: 58 Individual
Skills Test: Section Minimum 61

e) PSB Certificate in Academic English (PSB CAE)
Higher Level Pass – Students must obtain 65% or more in 3 of the 4 exams. Only one exam may be in the 60% to 64% range. Each of the 4 exams is of equal weighting.
