A few years ago, I was working in the security industry with only an SPM qualification. A friend introduced me to a data entry role, which became my first experience in an office setting. As I observed professionals around me, I became motivated to take on a more specialised role with better career prospects.

When an accounting vacancy opened up in my company, I took the initiative to apply. I had no formal experience or education, but my current manager recognised my eagerness to learn and gave me a chance. She patiently guided me through the basics, but I knew that to perform better and grow in this field, I needed a stronger foundation in accounting.

That’s when I found PSB Academy’s e-learning programmes and enrolled in the Certificate in Business Studies (E-Learning). The programme included an accounting module and offered the flexibility to study online while continuing to work. It also provided a direct pathway to a diploma. The lecturers were knowledgeable, and the online lessons were engaging and easy to follow, which made it easier for me to keep up despite my full-time job.

This e-learning programme provided me with valuable accounting knowledge that I could immediately apply to my work.

The Elements of Accounting module introduced me to key concepts like debits and credits, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and profit and loss. Understanding these fundamentals has helped me handle my daily tasks more efficiently and with greater confidence.

As I applied these concepts in my day-to-day work, I started to see the bigger picture of what a career in this field could look like. I began looking up to professionals in the Big Four accounting firms, hoping to join them in the future. I believe that continuous learning will open even more doors for me in the future and one day, I will be able to achieve my goal.
