After completing my Diploma in Aerospace Engineering at a local polytechnic, I wanted to continue my education in a STEM-related field while exploring my growing interest in technology. This led me to pursue my Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing Science with Coventry University at PSB Academy, where I could build on my technical background and develop new skills for an increasingly digital world.

I first learned about PSB Academy through my cousin, who had previously completed her bachelor’s degree there. After exploring the available programmes, I was drawn to the Computing Science degree, particularly because my diploma qualifications allowed me to enter directly into Year 2. This gave me a more time-efficient pathway towards completing my degree.

One aspect I particularly appreciate about Coventry University’s curriculum is its one-module-at-a-time learning structure. Unlike the traditional approach of studying several subjects simultaneously, this format allows me to focus on one subject, develop a deeper understanding of the concepts and complete my assessments before moving on to the next. I found this approach helpful in managing my workload and concentrating on each module.

Throughout my studies, I have gained knowledge in areas such as programming, database management, data analytics, cloud computing and software development. Beyond learning the technical concepts, I have also gained a better understanding of how technology can be applied to solve real-world problems and improve organisational efficiency.

My lecturers have also played an important role in making my learning experience meaningful. Dr Matthew Yok, who taught my first module and now supervises my Final Year Project, stands out for his engaging teaching style and dedication to ensuring that students understand the material. I also appreciate Mr David Leong’s patience and his encouragement to explore different approaches to solving problems, which has reinforced the importance of independent thinking in computing.

As I approach graduation, I believe the knowledge and skills I have gained at PSB Academy and Coventry University will provide a strong foundation for my future career. My journey has taught me that learning is not simply about acquiring technical knowledge, but also about remaining adaptable, thinking critically and being willing to explore new possibilities.
