Thanks to the all-rounded curriculum I received as a student at PSB Academy (PSBA) and La Trobe University (LTU), I gained applicable skills as well as commendable knowledge when it came to applying for a job. The laboratory sessions gave me a head start in my career.
I chanced upon PSBA and LTU while researching on the different Universities in Singapore, and because of my relevant diploma qualification (Diploma in Veterinary Technology) prior to joining PSBA, I was granted a 12-module exemption and could get my degree within 1 year .
Currently, as a Gene Lab Researcher at Genscript Biotech, I operate experiments in the field of genetic engineering involving genetic synthesis, mutation as well as vector construction. A future aspiration of mine would be to be a genetic engineer for a disease and to find a cure for it.
The MED3LAB module, in particular honed my laboratory skills and expanded my knowledge of genetic research, making it easier for me when looking for a job and applying these technical skills while working.
Though I believe that the stigma of private education graduates is definitely still present, I do see employers are starting to prioritise relevant work experiences over qualifications, and it is essential to work towards building a good resume even during the course of study.
