Learning Computing Science Through Practical Experience

As a Computing Science student, I wanted an education that was practical and allowed me to apply what I was learning, rather than focusing mainly on theory and exams. That was one of the things that attracted me to Coventry University at PSB Academy.

What I enjoy most about the programme is its assignment-based approach. Instead of simply studying for an exam, I get opportunities to work on coding assignments and projects, explore different tools and understand how they can be applied in real-world situations. I find this helps me understand what I am actually doing and makes the learning experience more meaningful.

I actually came to PSB Academy because of my mum! She was the one who discovered the school while browsing online. She noticed that PSB Academy was active online and offered plenty of activities for students, including clubs and events. I also liked that the campus has many young people and creative minds, so it felt like an environment where I could meet others and explore different interests.

I also appreciate that the curriculum is paced out, which gives me time to work through each subject and build my knowledge progressively. While there are reports to complete for each course, I particularly enjoy the assignments that involve coding and hands-on projects because they allow me to put what I have learned into practice.

I am currently working towards a career in data analytics, and the programme has given me exposure to many of the tools and skills that are relevant to this field. From my own research into data analyst roles, I have found that many of the tools employers look for are covered by our professors at Coventry University.

As an international student from Myanmar, studying in Singapore has also encouraged me to think more seriously about building my skills and standing out in the job market. I know that academic qualifications are only one part of the journey, so I am focused on gaining practical experience through the projects I work on and continuing to develop my skills.

For me, studying Computing Science is not just about learning the theory. It is about learning by doing, exploring new tools and building the confidence to apply what I learn in the real world.
