When I first decided to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering, I wanted a programme that would strengthen my technical knowledge while fitting around my work commitments. At the time, there were limited options that matched what I was looking for, and Coventry University at PSB Academy stood out because of its course structure, duration and relevant modules.
Today, I work as a Service Manager in the fire protection industry, where I oversee daily service operations, coordinate work schedules and lead a team of technicians. My role also involves working closely with customers to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. What I enjoy most is leading people and solving problems. Every day presents different challenges, and it's rewarding to see the team come together to deliver the best outcomes for our customers.
Working in the fire protection industry requires more than just technical expertise. Strong communication, problem-solving and adaptability are equally important, as I work with customers, contractors and my team every day. Having a positive attitude also helps me navigate challenges and ensure that we continue delivering quality service.
Studying at Coventry University gave me a strong technical foundation that continues to support me in my career. Beyond the engineering knowledge, the group-based modules helped me develop essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork and adaptability. Working with classmates from different backgrounds taught me how to collaborate effectively, exchange ideas and approach problems from different perspectives—skills that are invaluable in my current role as both a technical professional and a team leader.
One lecturer who left a lasting impression on me was Dr Rahim Leyman. His classes were challenging, and he constantly pushed us to give our best. While his expectations were high, they motivated me to work harder, persevere through difficulties and never settle for less than my best effort.
Looking back, I have never felt that studying at a private institution limited my opportunities. Instead, my experience at PSB Academy gave me the confidence and foundation to continue pursuing higher learning and investing in my personal and professional growth. It reinforced my belief that your willingness to learn, grow and continuously improve matters far more than where you begin your educational journey.
For anyone considering furthering their studies while working, I would encourage you to take the leap. The knowledge, confidence and practical skills I gained through Coventry University at PSB Academy have helped me grow both professionally and personally, and continue to support me in my career today.
