Student Stories

I embarked on an academic journey at PSB Academy in 2011. Currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, one of the top engineering institutions globally, my research focuses on mapping systems for self-driving cars. I have also completed my master’s studies at Tsinghua University and have published several research papers and patents. Reflecting on my time at PSB Academy, I am filled with gratitude for the foundation it provided, both academically and personally, as I navigated living far from my family for the first time.

At PSB Academy, the supportive and dedicated faculty played a pivotal role in my academic growth. One of the most influential figures was Ms Lo, who patiently guided me through the challenges of mastering English. When I first arrived in Singapore, my English skills, especially in writing, were far from proficient. Ms Lo’s dedication and meticulous approach significantly improved my language abilities, which have been crucial throughout my academic career.

Dr Lukas Karatzas, my first European teacher, made a profound impact on my understanding of physics. His emphasis on deep conceptual comprehension over rote memorisation laid a strong foundation for my future studies. Dr Karatzas reintroduced me to high school physics in a way that fostered a deeper appreciation and understanding, for which I am eternally grateful.

Throughout my time at PSB Academy, I also had the privilege of learning from other remarkable educators. Dr Goh Eng Yew introduced me to the rigorous world of coding and the application of mathematical concepts in programming. Dr Maung instilled in me the importance of attentiveness and respect in the classroom, and the relevance of material science in everyday life. Lastly, Dr Yit Yan Koh, my final year project supervisor, taught me the intricacies of academic writing and the complexities of thermodynamics, one of the most challenging subjects I encountered.

These educators were instrumental in shaping my academic path and personal development. Their guidance and mentorship helped create the person I am today. PSB Academy provided me with a solid academic foundation, invaluable life skills, and the confidence to pursue my ambitions on the global stage. For that, I will always be thankful.
