Diploma in Media and Communications,
PSB Academy
I imagined myself working in the dynamic world of media since I was 14. Throughout secondary and high school, media and communications was the only route I considered. During high school, I even worked freelance as an emcee, driven by my passion for the field.
I discovered PSB Academy through an education counsellor while searching for media and communication courses in Singapore. The course structure and modules offered a perfect balance between practical and theoretical knowledge, which was my biggest draw.
Studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has its advantages, such as the shorter duration of the Diploma allowing me to graduate earlier, and progress to university or start my professional career sooner. However, a downside was that as an international student, securing internship opportunities was challenging but I focused on the benefits of graduating sooner and gaining hands-on experience through the programme. I still chose to take the Diploma in Media and Communications at PSB Academy as a way of exploring networking opportunities while picking up the necessary skills and learning how the media industry works.
I gained not only knowledge, but also personal growth throughout the programme. The practical examinations and collaborative projects at PSB Academy provided invaluable hands-on experience, equipping me for real-world scenarios in the media industry. The lecturers, with their extensive professional backgrounds, offered expert guidance in the field. Ms Irdawati Binte Juffri not only taught me about professional media work but also imparted valuable life lessons. She inspires me to be a tough, smart, and empathetic woman. Mr Wong Kin Ching stands out as one of the most meticulous lecturers, with a deep understanding of the subject matter and exceptional teaching skills. I admire his thorough evaluation of our coursework and his ability to make consultations meaningful by addressing all my questions comprehensively and thoughtfully.
To those considering a similar path, my advice is simple: follow your passion and be open to learning. It’s okay if you take longer than others to find your passion because you’re not in a race with anyone else but yourself. Life is about choices, trials, and errors. So don’t be afraid to take on challenges, make mistakes, and enrich yourself with experiences. It’s okay to make errors – just remember to take a break and never let go of your passion.
