What is your highest educational qualification and what were you doing before joining PSB Academy?

I completed Grade 10 under an American high school curriculum before enrolling at PSB Academy.

How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?

I first heard about PSB Academy from a senior at my previous school and also came across it on social media. What appealed to me was the efficient academic pathway. The life sciences diploma could be completed in just 9 months, after which I would be able to progress directly to a bachelor’s degree. It felt like a faster and more purposeful alternative to traditional routes.

What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you're studying now/you've graduated from?

I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body works on a cellular and molecular level. I’m working towards a career in healthcare research, where I can help deepen our understanding of diseases and eventually contribute to medical advancements. Which is why I chose the Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences to build a strong grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of biology, which will prepare me for further studies in the medical and health sciences field.

What are some skills you've picked up from your course that you think will be useful in real life or your current/future job?

The diploma really helped me translate theory into practice, beyond just memorising concepts. I learnt how to work like a scientist. In the lab, I worked with techniques such as micro pipetting, preparing solutions for spectrophotometry, culturing microorganisms, and observing cells under the microscope. That was when I realised how much accuracy matters, even a tiny mistake can change the results completely. I also learned how to interpret data rather than just record it. For example, using absorbance readings to understand concentration helped me see how numbers connect to what’s happening inside living systems. These experiments made abstract concepts from chemistry and biology feel relevant and purposeful. Writing scientific lab reports also pushed me to think more critically. It wasn’t just about completing the experiment, I had to justify my findings using credible, peer-reviewed research. It changed how I approach problem-solving, I now break things down, analyse the evidence, and then form a conclusion. That’s a skill I’ll use far beyond the lab.

Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an advantage?

Yes, I believe it has. I’m now pursuing my bachelor’s degree in biomedical science with La Trobe University, and the pathway at PSB Academy allowed me to get start earlier than I would have through a traditional route. The pace is quicker, so it requires discipline, but it also means you progress faster, which has been a real advantage for me.

Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?

Dr Vismitha and Dr Marcus inspired me during my studies. Their concise teaching styles made learning easier, and they were always approachable for feedback. Their support created a positive environment where I felt comfortable seeking guidance at any time.

What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?

My advice is to first identify what you really want to achieve. Once you are clear about your goals, planning your next steps will be much smoother. Take things one step at a time, and do not forget to enjoy the friendships and connections you make along the way!
