After earning my Diploma in Biotechnology from a local polytechnic, I initially pursued psychology at another university. But something didn’t feel right—I wasn’t truly passionate about it. So, I took a leap of faith and decided on a two-year gap year. 

During this time, I worked in a lab, where I met many colleagues who were studying Biomedical Science at La Trobe University through PSB Academy. The more I interacted with them and gained hands-on experience, the clearer my passion for Biomedical Science became. Seeing their journey inspired me to explore my options, leading me to research the programmes offered at PSB Academy and La Trobe University. 

Why La Trobe University at PSB Academy? 

A major turning point was discovering that my Biotechnology Diploma granted me six module exemptions. That meant I could graduate faster than I expected—a huge plus. But beyond that, La Trobe University’s industry-focused curriculum caught my attention. Their approach wasn’t just about theory; it was about preparing students for real-world careers. That was exactly what I wanted. 

A Campus That Feels Like a Real-World Lab 

One of the first things I noticed at PSB Academy was how student-friendly the learning environment was. Whiteboards and markers on campus walls weren’t just for decoration—they became tools for brainstorming and breaking down complex concepts. There were always enough tables and chairs, so finding a study space was never an issue. 

The science laboratories at PSB Academy are well-equipped with advanced equipment and resources, closely resembling those found in professional labs. This realistic environment allows students to gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and techniques. 

Gaining Skills That Matter 

At La Trobe University, it’s not just about memorising facts. The curriculum has challenged me to think critically—whether it’s evaluating case studies, writing reports, or tackling real-world scenarios. Through this, I’ve honed my research and analytical skills, which are essential in any scientific field. 

Moreover, managing multiple assignments while preparing for exams has also sharpened my time management skills—something I know will be crucial in my future career. More importantly, I’ve learned that education isn’t just about what a school offers; it’s about how much effort and determination you’re willing to put in. 

Private vs. Public —Does It Matter? 

I don’t believe that qualifications from a private education institution are inferior to those from public institutions. While any school can provide guidance and support, the true quality of education depends on how much effort each student puts in. Success isn’t about the name of the institution—it’s about your own drive, commitment, and willingness to learn. 

If you’re unsure about your next step, take a moment to reflect on what excites you. Explore different options, shortlist institutions, and do your research—especially on accreditation and reputation. If you’re feeling lost, talk to your parents. They might offer perspectives you haven’t considered.
