Continuous learning and the willingness to take responsibility

1. Tell us about your current role as an Assistant Project Manager at Winner Engineering. What kind of projects do you handle, what does a typical day look like, and what do you enjoy most about your work?

In my role as an Assistant Project Manager at Winner Engineering, I support the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical and engineering-related construction projects. These projects typically involve coordination with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure that work is delivered according to project specifications, timelines, and safety requirements.

A typical day includes reviewing project schedules, attending site meetings, tracking progress, preparing documentation, and assisting in resolving on-site technical or coordination issues. I also work closely with senior project managers to monitor costs, manage resources, and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.

What I enjoy most about my work is the dynamic nature of the construction environment. Each project presents unique challenges, and seeing a project progress from planning to completion is highly rewarding. The role also allows me to continuously develop problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

2. What inspired you to pursue a career in project management within the construction and built environment field? Was there a defining moment or experience that sparked your interest?

My interest in project management within the construction and built environment field developed during my academic training and early exposure to real-world engineering projects. I realised that beyond technical design, successful projects require strong coordination, planning, and decision-making.

3. What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your current career, and what lessons have you learned in overcoming them?

One of the biggest challenges I face is managing multiple stakeholders with different priorities while working under tight timelines. Construction projects often involve unforeseen site conditions and last-minute changes, which require adaptability and clear communication.

Through these challenges, I have learned the importance of proactive planning, effective communication, and staying calm under pressure. Being open to learning from senior colleagues and maintaining a solutions-oriented mindset has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

4. What motivated you to pursue the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Engineering at Coventry University, and how has the programme shaped your career path?

I chose to pursue the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Engineering at Coventry University because of its strong emphasis on practical learning and industry relevance. The programme provided me with a solid foundation in engineering principles while also encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving.

The exposure to real-world case studies, group projects, and technical modules helped prepare me for the demands of the construction and engineering industry. The skills and discipline I developed during the programme have been instrumental in enabling me to transition confidently into a project management role.

5. How would you advise students who are considering Project Management as their first career?

For students considering project management as their first career, I would advise them to build a strong foundation in both technical knowledge and soft skills. Project management requires effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to manage time and expectations.

Gaining hands-on experience through internships or site exposure is extremely valuable. It is also important to remain open to learning, as project management is a continuous learning journey that evolves with experience.

6. What is one unforgettable memory or highlight from your time at PSB Academy that has stayed with you and perhaps influenced your career journey?

One unforgettable highlight from my time at PSB Academy was working on group projects that closely simulated real industry scenarios. Collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds taught me the importance of teamwork, leadership, and accountability.

These experiences helped me develop confidence in presenting ideas, managing group dynamics, and meeting deadlines.
