Chantelle Lim Zi Xin

Alumni Class of 2024
School of Business and Management

My journey at PSB Academy kicked off with the Diploma in Media and Communications, and from there, I progressed to the Bachelor of Communication with The University of Newcastle, Australia

I first discovered The University of Newcastle, Australia through friends who couldn’t stop raving about their experience. The University’s global reputation reassured me that my degree would be widely recognised, giving me a competitive edge in the job market. Plus, the module exemptions from PSB Academy’s diploma meant I could complete my degree in just 16 months, saving time and resources. Lastly, the experienced lecturers and industry-relevant curriculum made The University of Newcastle, Australia, an easy and compelling choice for my education.

The curriculum at the University of Newcastle armed me with many practical skills. Modules like Strategic Creativity, News Media, Public Relations Campaigns, Podcasting and Radio, Entrepreneurship, and Data Visualisation in Journalism stood out. I learned how to create compelling presentations, operate studio equipment like a pro, and write professional, well-structured essays. These weren’t just classroom skills—they were real-world tools I could take straight into my career.

One of the most unforgettable parts of my journey was learning from Mr. Gabriel Lim, a marketing guru, whose passion for marketing made every class engaging and insightful. He often shared real-world examples of successful marketing campaigns and broke them down step by step, helping us understand how creativity and strategy work together seamlessly. His ability to simplify complex ideas and show us the thought process behind impactful campaigns not only made learning enjoyable but also gave me a deeper appreciation for the industry.

PSB Academy has been everything I could ask for in a learning environment. As a media student, I had access to fully equipped media and radio studios where I got hands-on experience. The campus has mental health support, which I felt that it was super helpful in managing stress. Plus, there’s this awesome chill-out space within the campus where students can unwind between classes The University of Newcastle also brought the fun, with awesome events like Sports Day, Halloween Night, and tons of student club activities—great for making new friends and just having a good time.

Although I’ve heard the stigmas about private education institutions, my experience at PSB Academy and The University of Newcastle, Australia has shown me that private education institutions can offer exceptional education, practical skills, and valuable industry connections—sometimes even more so than their public counterparts.

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone considering further studies, it’s this: focus on what aligns with your career goals. Do your homework—research the programmes, check out the industry connections, and look into alumni success stories. Private institutions like PSB Academy offer tailored support, hands-on learning, and recognised qualifications, making them a solid choice for students who want to stand out.
