Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences, PSB Academy

School of Health and Life Sciences

What is your highest educational qualification before joining PSB Academy? And what are you doing now?

After completing Nitec, I started my journey at PSB Academy with a Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences. Now, I’m pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science with The University of Newcastle, Australia at PSB Academy.

How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?

I first heard about PSB Academy through friends who spoke positively about their time here. Later, I came across Instagram advertisements for PSB Academy, which sparked my interest and prompted me to explore further.

What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you’re studying now?

I chose to study at PSB Academy for its strong reputation for academic excellence and industry-relevant programmes that align with my career goals. Their flexible learning options, modern facilities, and diverse student community create the ideal environment for both professional and personal growth. I am confident that PSB Academy will equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in my field.

What are some skills you’ve picked up from your course that you think will be useful in real life or your future job?

This diploma has provided me with a strong foundation in laboratory work, equipping me with essential skills for my future career as a cognitive neuroscience scientist. I gained hands-on experience with key lab techniques, such as handling microscopes and understanding molecular biology methods—both crucial for neuroscience research.

As I prepare to pursue my bachelor’s degree at The University of Newcastle, Australia, at PSB Academy, I’m especially excited about the Neuroscience module. My diploma has already given me experience in data analysis, experimental interpretation, and statistical tools—skills that will be invaluable in neuroscience research. It has also strengthened my critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, helping me troubleshoot experiments and approach research logically.

Additionally, I developed strong attention to detail, which is crucial when working with brain-related data and neural circuits.

I’ve also learned the importance of collaboration and communication, as neuroscience relies on teamwork across different scientific fields. These experiences have given me a solid foundation for my future studies and research in brain function, cognition, and techniques like fMRI, EEG, and neuropsychological assessments.

Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an edge or put you at a disadvantage? Can you share any experiences that made you feel that way?

Studying at PSB Academy has given me a significant edge by offering a high-quality education with a strong focus on industry relevance. The smaller class sizes and personalised attention from lecturers have greatly enhanced my learning experience.

One of the most memorable moments was a hands-on lab session where I applied theory to practice, which boosted my confidence in using lab equipment and techniques. Additionally, the diverse student community has helped me develop strong interpersonal skills and broaden my perspective, preparing me to thrive in a collaborative environment.

Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?

Two lecturers who have greatly inspired me during my time at PSB Academy are Dr. Vismitha and Dr. Ng Wei Chun. Their passion for teaching and deep expertise in their fields have left a lasting impression on me.

Dr. Vismitha’s ability to simplify complex concepts has encouraged me to approach challenges with curiosity and determination, while Dr. Ng Wei Chun’s emphasis on precision and critical thinking has significantly shaped my approach to laboratory work. Their guidance has been instrumental in preparing me for my future career. Moreover, their motivation and dedication have inspired me to work harder and push myself to achieve my future goals.

What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had at PSB Academy?

One of the most unforgettable moments I’ve had at PSB Academy was forming lasting friendships with my peers. Working together on challenging projects and supporting each other through late study sessions created bonds that extend beyond the classroom. These friendships have not only enriched my time at school but also taught me the value of teamwork and mutual support.

What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?

My advice to students graduating from secondary school is to follow their curiosity and consider what truly excites them. Take time to research various career paths and speak to professionals or mentors in those fields for valuable insights. If you’re unsure, that’s perfectly fine sometimes exploring new opportunities can help you discover your passion. Choose a course or institution that not only aligns with your interests but also equips you with practical skills for the future. Most importantly, don’t be afraid of challenges; they often lead to the most rewarding experiences.
