What made you choose to pursue a double major in Business with La Trobe University?
La Trobe University has an excellent global reputation, and the course structure is practical, industry-focused, and accessible. It offered the perfect balance—high-quality education with manageable workloads.
I am juggling between being a parent and my full-time job, so I wanted a course that enabled me to get the same qualification while being able to suit my schedule. La Trobe University ’s Double Major Business Degrees fit that requirement as it opens many different pathways and give me the essential skills needed in both marketing and management that I can apply to real-world industries.
Being the first batch of graduates from La Trobe University’s Business Degree, how has your learning experience been so far?
It’s been incredibly rewarding. There’s a sense of camaraderie among us as pioneers. We support one another, and the lecturers have been deeply invested in our success. The hybrid delivery model made it possible for us to keep up even with work and different responsibilities.
There were also many valuable parts in my learning experience such as time management, critical thinking, and digital marketing concepts. I’ve learned how to apply theories, leadership models, and digital marketing concepts directly at work. But beyond that, it’s the discipline of learning while managing family and career that has shaped me the most.
How would you describe the student life and learning environment at PSB Academy?
I would say its dynamic and supportive. Even though I don’t spend as much time on campus, whenever I am there, I feel welcomed and motivated. The facilities are modern and conducive to learning.
The lecturers are also approachable, experienced and genuinely care about students’ progress. They understand that many of us are working adults, and they offer both flexibility and support. One lecturer who stood out to me the most was Jason Ho, who made complex terminologies easily digestible and relatable.
Are there any modules that you enjoy or that you find beneficial to you?
Modules that are related to social media, consumer behaviour and leadership were the most beneficial and insightful to me. The case studies and real-world applications in these subjects really sharpened my strategic thinking and problem-solving at work.
In my full-time role as a marketing associate, where I coordinate projects with multiple stakeholders, these modules deepened my passion for customer engagement and business strategy—and they’ve been invaluable as I do have a dream of launching my own small business in future.
How hands-on is this course? Have you had any chance of working on hands-on research projects?
Yes, the course is highly practical and hands-on. I've participated in business simulations, created marketing strategy proposals, and performed data analysis using industry-standard tools like Tableau, Brand24, BuzzSumo, and SPSS. These experiences boosted my confidence in data analysis and enhanced my presentation skills.
Because of this course, I’ve discovered an interest in pursuing strategic or business development roles where I can combine my previous experience with these newly acquired skills and tools. It also motivated me to pursue postgraduate studies in marketing or entrepreneurship.
What’s the biggest challenge you have overcome during your studies? Perhaps you can share what keeps you motivated, even on tough days?
There are competing time demands on certain days. Balancing full-time work, motherhood, and studies - there were nights I sacrificed my precious rest because of the multiple responsibilities that I hold. With only 24 hours in a day, something’s got to give—often at the expense of rest or personal time. But my motivation has always been my family, I want to be a role model for my child and people around me to show that learning never stops.
What advice would you give to someone considering the Bachelor of Business from La Trobe University?
Don’t wait for the perfect time, everyone has to start somewhere. This degree opens up a world of understanding about how businesses run and grow. It's not just about textbooks in the long run; it's about cultivating the right mindset and growth in yourself.
