Nicholas Ken Jatilaksono
Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Nicholas Ken Jatilaksono, and I completed a Diploma in Business Administration (Digital Marketing) as well as a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Business and Marketing. I have always been fueled by a deep curiosity about how businesses of all sizes operate, whether it is small enterprises or larger corporations. Additionally, delving into marketing studies was crucial, as it highlighted the significance of this department in generating revenue for a company.
How are you applying the skills and knowledge from your Business and Marketing degree in your current role?
I’m currently part of the Sales and Customer Management department in PT Pertamina Gas Negara/Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN). Within this department, there are three other divisions (Industrial Commercial, City Gas, Planning and Performance Management). and I am in the Industry Commercial division, where our primary focus is on commercialising PGN’s products to industrial customers. I find that the knowledge and skills acquired during my diploma and bachelor’s studies are highly relevant to my current role. One prominent framework frequently employed in our division is the 7Ps model, encompassing product, price, place, promotion, people, physical evidence, and process. This holistic approach ensures a comprehensive strategy for our operations.
What inspired you to be the President of MAPIA? What were your biggest accomplishments from leading the club?
One of my primary motivations for taking on the role of President at MAPIA was to embark on a journey of self-improvement. When presented with the opportunity, my goal was clear – seize the chance to broaden my horizons. My biggest accomplishment during my presidency was spearheading the organisation of Journey to the East (JTTE). Working together with the Student Success Office, this collaborative event brought together the Chinese, Global, Indonesian, and South Asian Student Club communities. It was an unforgettable adventure that not only pushed my limits but also provided valuable insights into my own capabilities. it allowed me to cultivate stronger ties with the Indonesian Embassy, paving the way for enhanced benefits for the future executive committee.

How did you balance your academic responsibilities with your active involvement in school events and student community activities, especially in a leadership role?
Initially, I found the responsibilities overwhelming. However, with a strong mentality, discipline, and a sense of responsibility, I was able to balance my time effectively. Furthermore, having a supportive and kind team is crucial. There were moments when I had some team members who were unavailable, but the rest stepped up and covered their duties temporarily.
Describe your experience studying in Singapore, and how has it helped you in your personal growth?
Studying in Singapore has significantly contributed to my personal growth, fostering qualities such as maturity, responsibility, and understanding. Exposure to diverse perspectives from individuals of various nationalities has expanded my worldview, offering a richer understanding of the world.
What do you miss the most about your time at PSB Academy?
What I miss the most about my time at PSB Academy is the opportunity to engage in conversations with friends from various countries, sharing their unique perspectives and past experiences. It was especially enriching to connect with individuals who were not only eager to improve themselves but also highly ambitious in pursuing their life goals together.
What key pieces of advice or strategies from your career coaching sessions have been most impactful for your career aspirations?
Learning to use LinkedIn is crucial for me, as I currently find myself at a disadvantage due to my lack of expertise in effectively tailoring my profile. Unsure of the best ways to bring my profile to the attention of potential employers, the session has enhanced my knowledge of LinkedIn’s tools and features. I want to transform my profile into an appealing one that catches the attention of potential employers and opens up new career opportunities.
Having spoken to our career coaches, would you recommend career guidance services to current students? Why?
I highly recommend this career coaching service, especially for fellow international students. The coaches bring valuable experience and insights into navigating the job application process in Singapore. Having benefited from their guidance, I am confident in their skills and effective advice for those seeking employment opportunities in this competitive environment.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your education journey at PSB Academy?
There was a particular time during my studies when I became overwhelmed with responsibilities and encountered various problems, to the extent that I fell sick. Despite my illness, I remained committed to honouring the trust and opportunities given to me, both in my studies and as MAPIA’s President. I felt grateful, knowing that I had many supportive friends around me. This challenging period taught me the importance of gratitude and hope. I realised that life is not just about experiencing good or bad days; it’s about being grateful and seeking hope for the future
