Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences,
PSB Academy
What is your highest educational qualification before joining PSB Academy? And what are you doing now?
After completing my O-Levels, I began my journey at PSB Academy with a Certificate in Sports and Exercise Sciences. From there, I progressed to a Diploma in the same field, and I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science with Edith Cowan University at PSB Academy.
How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?
I first learned about PSB Academy through online research and recommendations from peers in the sports science field. I chose PSB Academy because of its focus on practical, real-world applications in sports and exercise sciences, as well as its commitment to equipping students with industry-relevant skills to thrive in health and fitness careers.
What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you’re studying now?
My career goal is to become a personal trainer, empowering others to lead healthier lives and reach their fitness goals. I chose this course because it offers a solid foundation in sports science, anatomy, and exercise physiology—essential knowledge for anyone pursuing a career in health and fitness.
What are some skills you’ve picked up from your course that you think will be useful in real life or your future job?
Through my studies, I’ve gained practical skills like exercise programming, client assessment, and injury prevention techniques. I also now have a strong grasp of biomechanics and nutrition, which will allow me to create effective training plans and guide clients toward their wellness goals.
Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an edge or put you at a disadvantage? Can you share any experiences that made you feel that way?
I believe studying at PSB Academy has given me an edge. The smaller class sizes mean I get more personalised support from lecturers, and the hands-on learning approach has allowed me to connect with other like-minded students. This has made my learning experience more practical and tailored toward my career.
Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?
One lecturer who inspired me was Mr. Ng Jun Wei, who taught biomechanics. His passion for movement analysis and injury prevention, combined with his industry insights, inspired me to deepen my understanding of how to help clients train safely.
What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had at PSB Academy?
My most memorable experience was completing a hands-on assignment where we designed and implemented a training programme for a fellow student. It was incredibly fulfilling to put my knowledge into action and see the real impact of my training plan.
What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?
My advice is to choose a career path that excites you and has practical applications in the real world. If you’re passionate about helping others improve their health, the sports and health field can be very rewarding. Look for a programme that balances theory with hands-on experience—this combination will really prepare you for success in the workforce.
